Iran has executed a man convicted of killing a member of the country's security forces during the nationwide protests that followed the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody in 2022.
According to Iranian authorities, the man, identified as Aref Khoshkar, was found guilty of fatally shooting security officer Salman Amirahmadi during clashes between protesters and security personnel in Tehran. Officials said the officer later died from his injuries in hospital.
Authorities claimed Khoshkar admitted to firing a pellet gun from the rooftop of a house before disposing of the weapon. He was sentenced to death after being convicted by an Iranian court.
The execution is the latest linked to the 2022 anti-government protests, which spread across Iran after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini following her arrest by the country's morality police for allegedly violating hijab regulations.
International human rights organizations have continued to criticize Iran's handling of protest-related cases, arguing that many defendants were denied fair trials and due process.
The Iranian government has maintained that those prosecuted were responsible for violent attacks on security personnel and public property during the unrest.
