A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced Jonathan Marcus to death by hanging for the murder of his former employer, 80-year-old Adebola Ezekiel, and his wife, Abiodun Ezekiel.
The couple were found dead at their residence in the Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja, on April 1, 2024.
Police investigations led to Marcus' arrest in Obajana, Kogi State, where he had fled after the killings. During interrogation, he confessed to entering the victims' home around 11 p.m. on the night of the attack and killing them.
Investigators revealed that Marcus had previously worked as the couple's driver but was dismissed after repeated disputes with his employers.
After reviewing the evidence presented by the prosecution, Justice M. S. Idris ruled that the case had been proven beyond reasonable doubt. The court subsequently convicted Marcus and sentenced him to death by hanging.
Reacting to the judgment, the FCT Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property while ensuring that those responsible for criminal acts are brought to justice.
