19 Killed, Over 100 Injured in Sri Lanka Prison Clashes

At least 19 people have been killed and more than 100 others injured after violent clashes erupted inside a prison in Negombo, about 35 kilometres north of Sri Lanka's capital, Colombo.

The unrest began on Sunday and continued into Monday, according to local media and police reports. Hospital officials confirmed that the dead include four prison guards and 15 inmates, while more than 100 injured prisoners are receiving treatment.

Police acknowledged the deadly violence but have not released further details. The cause of the clashes remains under investigation.

Authorities are continuing efforts to restore order at the prison as investigations into the incident continue.
