Venezuela Earthquake Death Toll Rises Above 900 as Rescue Efforts Continue

Rescue teams and volunteers in Venezuela are racing against time to find survivors after powerful earthquakes killed more than 900 people and left thousands missing.

The government said at least 920 people have died, about 3,360 were injured, and more than 50,000 people were reported missing following two major earthquakes that struck the country on Wednesday.

A weaker 4.9 magnitude tremor also shook parts of Venezuela on Friday, causing further concern among residents.

In badly affected areas such as La Guaira, survivors and rescue workers have been searching through collapsed buildings, with some using their bare hands due to shortages of heavy equipment.

International rescue teams from countries including Mexico and El Salvador have arrived to support local efforts. Aid organizations are also sending emergency supplies.

Officials said the earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude, caused billions of dollars in damage and affected millions of people.

The disaster has placed further pressure on Venezuela’s authorities as the country continues emergency operations and recovery efforts.
