The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has filed a case against Rwanda at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), accusing Kigali of involvement in decades of alleged violence and human rights abuses in eastern Congo.
The case, submitted on Friday, claims that Rwanda was responsible for years of massacres, forced displacement, sexual violence, and other alleged atrocities affecting civilians in the region.
The Congolese government said the alleged abuses date back to 1996 and involve armed groups, including the M23 movement, which has been accused of carrying out military operations in eastern DRC.
The conflict has caused massive displacement, with hundreds of thousands of people forced from their homes during years of fighting.
Rwanda has repeatedly denied supporting M23 and says its military actions in eastern Congo are aimed at protecting its security from armed groups linked to the 1994 genocide.
DR Congo is asking the ICJ to order Rwanda to stop the alleged violations and provide compensation to victims.
The court confirmed it received the case, while Kigali had not immediately issued a response.
