US Strikes Iranian Infrastructure After Helicopter Incident, Water Facilities Reportedly Damaged

Tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated sharply following overnight military strikes that reportedly targeted Iranian infrastructure, including water facilities, according to Iranian officials.

The US military said it carried out coordinated “self-defence strikes” on communications and radar installations in Iran, describing the operation as a proportional response to what it called an unprovoked attack involving the downing of a US Apache helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz.

US officials claim the helicopter was shot down during patrol operations, although an official investigation into the incident is still ongoing. US President Donald Trump blamed Iran, saying the country deliberately targeted the aircraft, though Tehran has not confirmed this allegation.

Iranian authorities, however, said the strikes went beyond military targets and damaged civilian infrastructure, including two water reservoirs in the Sirik area of Hormozgan Province in southern Iran. Local reports indicated that concrete water storage facilities in the Bamani district were hit, affecting essential water supplies in nearby communities.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the damage included telecommunications infrastructure and water systems serving thousands of residents. Initial estimates suggest significant financial losses, though full assessments are still underway.

The reported strikes come amid a worsening water crisis in Iran, where prolonged drought, declining rainfall, and infrastructure stress have already placed severe pressure on national water supplies.

Analysts say the targeting of water infrastructure, if confirmed, could raise serious legal and humanitarian concerns, as international law generally protects civilian utilities such as water systems during armed conflict.

Iran has vowed to respond to the latest attacks, raising fears of further escalation in the Gulf region as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to intensify.
