A Ukrainian drone attack has struck several locations in Moscow, setting a major oil refinery on fire and sending thick smoke over the city, according to reports.
The attack, which targeted the refinery in the Kapotnya area, disrupted operations and forced some Moscow airports to suspend flights. The scale of the long-range strike surprised many residents and caused panic on social media.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the strike was a “fair response” to Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Russian air defence forces were responding to a large-scale drone attack, claiming hundreds of drones were intercepted. He added that a shopping centre and other buildings were damaged.
The strike came after Russia carried out missile and drone attacks on Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine. Both sides continue to accuse each other of escalating the conflict, while denying deliberate attacks on civilians.
