Nigerian Army troops have rescued a kidnap victim who was found chained inside the notorious Fafu Forest in Katsina State while dismantling terrorist hideouts during ongoing clearance operations.
The Army revealed this in a statement issued on Friday, June 19, 2026, saying troops under Operation CLEAN SWEEP intensified operations across Katsina State.
According to the statement, troops from the 17 Brigade and 8 Division Special Forces carried out clearance missions around Tuga in Matazu Local Government Area, targeting terrorist strongholds.
With support from intelligence operations, surveillance and air strikes conducted under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the troops recovered 36 cattle, 280 sheep and two donkeys, depriving criminal groups of a major source of funding.
The forces later advanced into the Fafu Forest, where they destroyed several terrorist camps and logistics bases following coordinated air and artillery bombardments.
During the operation, troops discovered a hideout linked to a notorious terrorist commander. They recovered two bodies and rescued a kidnap victim identified as Nura Yar’Adua, who was found in chains.
The rescued victim was given first aid before being evacuated to the Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina for further medical attention.
