No fewer than 6,000 households affected by floods and other disasters in Yobe State have received food items and relief materials donated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) in partnership with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Yobe State Government.
The distribution exercise, which took place in Damaturu, targeted vulnerable families across the 17 local government areas of the state.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, NEMA Director-General, Mrs Zubaida Umar, said the intervention was designed to support vulnerable communities and strengthen humanitarian assistance for disaster victims.
She revealed that KSrelief donated 24,302 food baskets to five states, including Yobe, Benue, Anambra, Kebbi and Taraba.
According to her, Yobe State received 6,000 food baskets meant for households affected by floods and other emergencies.
Umar said the Saudi humanitarian organisation had continued to assist victims of insurgency, displacement and other crises in Yobe through similar programmes.
She urged officials responsible for the distribution to follow strict guidelines to ensure transparency, fairness and that the items reach the intended beneficiaries.
Representing Governor Mai Mala Buni, the Acting Secretary to the State Government, Dr Muhammad Goje, praised NEMA and KSrelief for supporting Yobe.
He said the intervention would help reduce hardship among affected families and complement government efforts to address humanitarian challenges.
Goje also assured that the state government and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) would ensure the relief materials are distributed effectively and with dignity to those in need.
