Thousands of protesters have taken to the streets of Albania’s capital, Tirana, to oppose a luxury resort project linked to the family of US President Donald Trump.
The planned hotel development, connected to Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, has sparked anger among environmental groups and citizens who say the project threatens a protected coastal area.
The protesters marched with Albanian and US flags, chanting “Albania is not for sale” and calling for transparency over the coastal development plans.
The proposed resort is expected to be built near the Vjosa-Narta protected area, a region known for wildlife and migratory birds, including flamingos. Critics fear the construction could damage biodiversity.
Demonstrators also accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of allowing secretive agreements and demanded his resignation.
Rama rejected the calls to step down, saying the controversy is focused more on the Kushner connection and the influence of Trump’s name than the development itself.
The protests have continued for several weeks, with members of the Albanian diaspora returning home to join the demonstrations.
