US President Donald Trump has accused Iran of violating a ceasefire agreement after a drone attack damaged a cargo vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
The attack, which occurred near Oman, involved the Singapore-flagged cargo ship Ever Lovely, owned by Taiwan-based Evergreen Marine. The vessel was struck while operating in the Gulf region.
No crew members were reported injured, and the ship was able to continue its voyage. US forces said they intercepted other drones involved in what they described as a coordinated attack.
Trump said the strike was a “foolish” action and warned against further violations of the ceasefire arrangement.
Iran has denied involvement in the attack, although US officials claimed Tehran was responsible.
The incident comes as the United States and Iran continue talks on a temporary agreement aimed at easing tensions, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and addressing disputes over Iran’s nuclear programme and sanctions.
The attack has also disrupted international efforts to help vessels trapped in the Gulf, raising fresh concerns over security in one of the world’s most important shipping routes.
