Gunmen have killed the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Benue State, Ardo Muhammad, along with another person identified as Yakubu Isah.
The incident happened in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, causing tension in Otukpo and nearby communities.
Reports said the MACBAN chairman had attended a peace meeting organised by the Divisional Police Officer of Ohinmini Local Government Area with leaders of the Ayunne community over previous conflicts.
While returning from the meeting, armed men reportedly ambushed their vehicle at Okudu community in Otukpo and killed both occupants.
Muhammad’s eldest son confirmed the attack, saying his father was ambushed and killed.
The Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, Maxwell Ogiri, confirmed the incident, describing the situation as tense and calling on residents to remain calm.
The Ohinmini council chairman, Adole Gabriel, also confirmed that the victim had attended a peace meeting before the attack occurred.
The Benue State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, said police had received the report and investigations were ongoing.
The killing has increased concerns over repeated attacks in some communities within Otukpo and Ohinmini areas.
