Troops under Operation HADIN KAI have rescued 53 civilians and recovered eight vehicles after attacking a suspected ISWAP/JAS terrorist roadblock along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
The Nigerian Army said the operation took place on Wednesday, June 24, after surveillance cameras detected terrorists blocking the highway near Dutse Kura.
A Quick Reaction Force team was deployed and engaged the insurgents in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat.
During the operation, troops rescued 53 innocent civilians who had been held by the terrorists and recovered eight vehicles seized from them.
The military said the rescued victims and recovered vehicles were safely taken to Buratai town, where the civilians are undergoing documentation and medical checks.
The Army praised the troops for their swift response and urged residents to remain alert and provide security agencies with useful information about suspicious activities.
Borno State has remained the centre of Nigeria’s long-running insurgency since Boko Haram began its violent campaign in 2009. The latest operation adds to recent military successes against insurgent groups in the region.
