Seven Killed, Several Injured in Deadly Farmer-Herder Violence in Bauchi

At least seven people have been killed and six others injured following a violent clash between farmers and herders in Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

According to the Bauchi State Police Command, the conflict erupted in Lanzai and Dosho communities after suspected armed herders allegedly attacked farmers working on their farmland on the outskirts of Lanzai village.

Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib said authorities received a distress call reporting that the attackers targeted farmers who were applying local fertilizer on their fields. The incident triggered a retaliatory response from youths in the Lanzai community.

The youths reportedly stormed Dosho village, a settlement predominantly occupied by herders, and set fire to numerous structures. About 50 huts were destroyed, while household belongings and other property were lost in the blaze.

The violence resulted in seven fatalities, while six injured victims were taken to medical facilities for treatment. Significant damage was also recorded to homes and personal property in the affected communities.

In response, security agencies have deployed tactical units and members of the Violent Crime Response Unit to restore calm and prevent further unrest. Security patrols have also been intensified across Lanzai, Dosho, and neighboring settlements.

Commissioner of Police CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident. He stated that both those responsible for the initial attack and individuals involved in the retaliatory violence would be identified and prosecuted.

The police chief urged residents and community leaders to remain peaceful and refrain from taking the law into their own hands, assuring that security agencies remain committed to protecting lives and ensuring justice for all affected parties.
