Samsung has introduced its latest mid-range mobile processor, the Exynos 1680, marking another step in the company's strategy to strengthen its smartphone ecosystem through in-house chip development.
The new chipset, launched with the Galaxy A57 5G, is built on advanced 4-nanometer technology and features ARM Cortex-A720 performance cores, the Xclipse 550 graphics processor, and enhanced artificial intelligence capabilities capable of delivering up to 19.6 trillion operations per second (TOPS).
Samsung says the Exynos 1680 is designed to bring premium-level performance and AI features to more affordable smartphones in its popular Galaxy A-series lineup.
The processor succeeds the Exynos 1580 and reflects Samsung's continued efforts to improve its mobile chip business following setbacks experienced with earlier generations of Exynos processors. Industry analysts view the launch as another sign of Samsung's growing confidence in its semiconductor division.
The company is also expanding its presence in the flagship market with the Exynos 2600, which powers selected versions of the Galaxy S26 series in some regions.
Samsung's approach of developing both budget and premium processors for its smartphones highlights its vertical integration strategy, allowing the company to control key components across its product portfolio. This model sets Samsung apart from many competitors in the global smartphone market.
The launch comes as competition intensifies among major smartphone manufacturers seeking to deliver better performance, AI capabilities, and value across all price segments.
