Iran Says Lebanon War Ending Is Key Part of US Agreement

Iran has said that ending the war in Lebanon is a key and inseparable part of a broader understanding with the United States aimed at ending ongoing hostilities in the region.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei made the remarks during a press briefing on Monday, stating that the recently finalized memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Tehran and Washington includes provisions covering multiple conflict fronts, including Lebanon.

Baghaei said the agreement reflects what he described as Iran’s resilience in the face of external pressure and military confrontation, adding that the Lebanon issue is explicitly mentioned multiple times in the understanding.

According to him, the deal stipulates that ending hostilities must include respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and that the situation in Lebanon cannot be separated from the wider regional settlement framework.

He also warned that Iran does not trust Israel or the United States to fully comply with any agreement, stressing that enforcement and compliance must be monitored closely. He added that responsibility lies with Washington to ensure that all parties meet their obligations.

Baghaei further described the MoU as only an initial step toward reducing tensions, saying deeper mistrust remains due to past conflicts and historical grievances, including long-standing disputes between Iran and the US.

He claimed that the conflict had weakened the opposing side while strengthening Iran’s regional position, insisting that Tehran remains committed to defending its national interests and sovereignty.

The statement comes amid reports of continued regional instability and ongoing diplomatic efforts to formalize the agreement, which is expected to be signed in a ceremony later this week.
