A monarch in Ode Oriya Village, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, has been kidnapped by suspected gunmen during a late-night attack on Friday.
The traditional ruler, identified as Mr. Adeniyi Adelana, was reportedly abducted around 8:05 p.m. when armed men stormed his residence, numbering about six, and forcefully whisked him away through a nearby bush path.
During the attack, the monarch’s wife was shot in the right hand, leaving her injured and causing panic in the community.
Residents said the attackers operated under the cover of darkness before escaping with their victim.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, Jimoh Abayomi, said the injured wife was rescued and taken to a medical facility, where she is receiving treatment and responding well.
He added that police operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer of B Division in Owo, immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation after receiving a distress call.
According to him, officers are currently combing surrounding forests, bush paths, and suspected escape routes in an effort to locate and rescue the abducted monarch.
The police assured residents that efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the traditional ruler and restore calm in the affected community.
