The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, says only God can ultimately bring an end to Nigeria’s insecurity challenges.
Matawalle made the statement in an interview with BBC Hausa amid a recent rise in violent attacks, killings, and kidnappings across parts of the country, including reported incidents in Oyo and Borno States.
According to reports, gunmen recently attacked schools in Oyo State, abducting students and teachers, while another attack in Borno State led to the kidnapping of dozens of pupils.
The minister said insecurity in Nigeria remains a serious national challenge that requires collective action from security agencies, government, and citizens.
He urged Nigerians to support security operatives and also pray for peace, while warning against politicising the security situation.
Matawalle accused some political actors of circulating old or misleading videos on social media to discredit the current administration and create a false impression of worsening insecurity.
He said security agencies are actively working to combat terrorist groups and other armed criminals operating in different parts of the country.
According to him, insecurity is not unique to Nigeria, noting that even powerful countries continue to face similar threats over time.
He added that while government efforts continue, the problem cannot be solved overnight, and sustained cooperation between citizens and security agencies is necessary to achieve lasting peace.
