Ethiopian Prime Minister ’s Prosperity Party has won another parliamentary majority after securing victory in the latest elections, according to results announced by the country’s National Election Board.
The ruling party was widely expected to dominate the election due to a divided opposition and its strong political influence across Ethiopia.
Abiy Ahmed, who became prime minister in 2018 after nationwide protests against the former ruling coalition, formed the Prosperity Party in 2019 as part of his political restructuring efforts.
The victory further strengthens the party’s control of government after it secured more than 90 percent of parliamentary seats in the 2021 elections.
