At least 484 people, including 271 children, have been displaced following a fresh attack by armed bandits in Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, according to the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
The IOM said the attack, which occurred on June 15, 2026, forced residents from 101 households to flee their homes.
The organisation revealed that children made up more than half of the displaced population, with 129 women and 84 men also affected.
The victims reportedly escaped from Gamo Gidan Bita in Birnin Magaji Ward to Ubandawaki in Magaji Gari Ward after the attack.
The IOM said it launched an emergency assessment the following day under its early warning response system.
The agency described the attack as part of ongoing insecurity in the North-West region, driven by conflicts involving farmers, herders, and armed criminal groups.
The report recorded five casualties, including three deaths and two injuries.
The displaced families urgently need food, shelter, and essential non-food items, as all assessed households require humanitarian assistance.
Zamfara and other North-West states have continued to face repeated attacks by armed bandits, leading to thousands of people being forced from their homes.
