Pakistan has rejected allegations that it secretly assisted Iran militarily during the ongoing US-Iran crisis, as fears grow that the fragile ceasefire between Washington and Tehran could soon break down.
The denial came after reports claimed Iranian military aircraft had been moved to Pakistan’s Nur Khan Air Base following the April ceasefire, allegedly to shield them from possible US attacks. Islamabad dismissed the claims as “misleading and sensationalised,” insisting the aircraft arrived only for diplomatic logistics linked to peace negotiations hosted in the Pakistani capital.
Tensions escalated after US President Donald Trump described the ceasefire as being on “massive life support” and harshly rejected Iran’s latest peace proposal, calling it “totally unacceptable.”
Iran defended its proposal, saying it sought the lifting of sanctions, the release of frozen assets, and recognition of Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz before any nuclear negotiations could proceed.
Meanwhile, US officials reportedly questioned whether Pakistan was fully conveying Washington’s concerns to Tehran during mediation efforts. Pakistani officials responded by saying their role requires neutrality and balanced diplomacy.
Analysts say Pakistan remains a key intermediary because both the United States and Iran continue to engage with Islamabad despite growing mistrust between the two rivals.
The dispute centres on Iran’s nuclear programme, US sanctions, and control of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil shipping route. Although both sides appear eager to avoid a wider war, experts warn that tensions around maritime security and military activity in the Gulf could intensify in the coming days.
China, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and other regional powers are also involved in diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing the ceasefire from collapsing completely.
