The United States military has confirmed that two service members have gone missing while participating in a multinational military exercise in Morocco.
According to a statement from US Africa Command (AFRICOM), the incident occurred on Saturday near the Cap Draa Training Area, close to the southwestern city of Tan-Tan.
Authorities say search and rescue operations are currently underway, involving joint efforts from the US, Moroccan forces, and other participating countries. These operations include ground teams, aircraft, and maritime units.
“The incident remains under investigation and the search is ongoing,” AFRICOM said.
The troops were part of the African Lion exercise, the largest annual joint military drill conducted by the United States on the African continent. The exercise is hosted by several countries, including Morocco, Ghana, Senegal, and Tunisia, and aims to enhance coordination and readiness among allied forces to respond to regional and global crises.
