Russia has carried out one of its largest drone and missile attacks on Ukraine in recent months, killing at least 10 people and injuring dozens in the capital, Kyiv, according to Ukrainian officials.
Ukrainian authorities said the overnight assault targeted multiple districts across Kyiv and surrounding areas, while additional strikes hit ports in the southern Odesa region and railway infrastructure elsewhere in the country.
The Ukrainian air force reported that Russia launched 675 attack drones and 56 missiles during the barrage. Air defence systems reportedly intercepted 652 drones and 41 missiles.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said 20 locations in Kyiv suffered damage, including residential buildings, a school, a veterinary clinic and other civilian facilities.
“As of now, we know that a total of 10 people have died in Kyiv as a result of the Russian massive attack,” Zelenskyy said in his evening address.
Police said seven victims — including three men, three women and a young girl — were recovered from the rubble of a destroyed residential building. Authorities added that 45 people were wounded.
Zelenskyy also said Russia had launched more than 1,560 drones against Ukrainian towns and cities within a 36-hour period, calling on international partners to strengthen support for Ukraine’s air defence systems.
The latest attacks come days after a temporary three-day ceasefire brokered by United States President Donald Trump collapsed amid accusations of violations from both Moscow and Kyiv.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had recently suggested the war could be moving toward an eventual conclusion, but the Kremlin later reiterated demands that Ukraine withdraw fully from the Donbas region before any meaningful ceasefire or peace negotiations could proceed.
Kyiv has rejected those conditions, describing them as unacceptable and equivalent to surrender.
