Police Recover 119 AK-47 Ammunition Near Gombe Graveyard

Police spokesperson, Buhari Abdullahi, disclosed in a statement on Thursday that the recovery followed credible intelligence received by the Divisional Police Officer of Kwadon Division at about 10:30 a.m. on May 19, 2026.

According to him, security operatives were alerted to a suspicious white sack hidden under a tree opposite a graveyard along the road.

“Upon receipt of the information, the Divisional Police Officer promptly led a team of detectives to the scene where the sack was recovered and searched,” Abdullahi stated.

Items recovered from the sack included 119 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition, two empty ammunition packets, two bottles containing moringa seeds, and a green bag.

The police said operatives immediately launched a search of nearby bushes and surrounding areas, but no suspect had been arrested as of the time of filing this report.

Abdullahi added that the command had intensified surveillance and monitoring in the area as investigations continue to identify and apprehend those behind the concealed ammunition.

The Commissioner of Police, Bello Yahaya, commended residents for providing timely information and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue sharing useful intelligence with security agencies.

The development comes weeks after the Nigeria Police Force in Kano State arrested a suspected arms dealer and recovered three fabricated AK-47 rifles during a sting operation in Dala Local Government Area.
