Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have uncovered a major drug trafficking operation in Lagos, seizing suspected illicit drugs valued at approximately ₦7.8 billion and arresting several suspects, including an alleged syndicate leader.
The operation was carried out by officers of the Zone 2 Command’s Special Protection Unit in collaboration with divisional detectives after months of surveillance and intelligence gathering.
Police raided an apartment in the Mende area of Maryland, Lagos, where hundreds of bags of suspected “Canadian Loud” were reportedly discovered.
According to Assistant Inspector-General of Police Olohundare Jimoh, the prime suspect, identified as Eke Henry Ifeanyi, was arrested on May 19 following weeks of monitoring by security operatives.
Jimoh revealed that the suspect allegedly offered a ₦500 million bribe to the SPU commander in an attempt to halt the operation and move the drug consignment. The bribe was reportedly rejected and documented as evidence.
Police authorities praised the officers involved for their professionalism and integrity, describing the operation as a success for intelligence-led policing and coordinated security efforts.
Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu also commended the team, saying the rejection of the bribe reflected the ethical standards expected within the force.
The suspects remain in custody while investigations continue to identify and arrest other members of the alleged trafficking network.
