Joint air operations conducted by the Nigerian military and the United States Africa Command have reportedly killed at least 175 terrorists, including foreign ISIS trainers from Iraq, during coordinated strikes across North-East Nigeria.
According to security sources, the offensive targeted camps, logistics bases, weapons depots, checkpoints, and financial networks linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and allied insurgent groups operating around the Lake Chad region.
Intelligence assessments reportedly confirmed that several foreign ISIS operatives involved in drone warfare training and tactical coordination were among those killed in the precision airstrikes. Sources added that some of the foreign fighters had planned to leave the region shortly before the attacks were launched.
The operations also reportedly eliminated senior ISWAP commanders, including Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, also known as Abbor Mainok, who Nigerian military authorities previously described as a key ISIS operative involved in international terror coordination, recruitment, logistics, and financing activities.
Other insurgent figures said to have been killed include Abd-al Wahhab, linked to attack coordination and propaganda operations, Abu Musa al-Mangawi, a senior field commander, and Abu al-Muthanna al-Muhajir, identified as a media operative and close associate of al-Minuki.
Military authorities said the strikes have significantly weakened ISIS-linked operational structures and disrupted the group’s capacity to coordinate attacks within the region.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria reiterated their commitment to ongoing joint operations with international allies, adding that efforts to track down fleeing insurgents and dismantle remaining terrorist enclaves are continuing across the North-East.
