The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested 10 suspected arms dealers accused of supplying weapons and ammunition to bandits operating across parts of the state.
Police spokesperson Mansir Hassan said the suspects were apprehended during separate intelligence-led operations carried out by security operatives. Several locally fabricated firearms, including AK-47-style rifles and pistols, were recovered during the raids.
According to the police, investigations began after a case involving illegal arms trafficking was transferred from the Ikara Divisional Headquarters earlier this month. Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit later tracked and arrested five suspects identified as Haruna Dauda, Meshack John, Iliya Dangi, Joshua Maigida and Audu Musa.
Security agents reportedly recovered four fabricated AK-47 rifles and two pistols from the suspects during the operation.
Preliminary findings indicated that the group allegedly specialised in supplying weapons and ammunition to criminal gangs and bandits operating within Ikara and nearby communities. Police added that some of the suspects confessed to providing firearms to other arrested individuals connected to criminal activities in the area.
In another operation, officers arrested two additional suspects in Kubau Local Government Area after recovering a locally made AK-47 rifle and ammunition.
Police also carried out a raid in Furana Village, Ikara Local Government Area, where another fabricated rifle was recovered from the residence of a suspect who remains on the run.
Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, warned individuals involved in the illegal manufacture and distribution of firearms to criminal groups to desist, stressing that security agencies would continue intelligence-driven operations to dismantle criminal networks across the state.
Authorities said investigations are ongoing to uncover more members of the arms supply chain and strengthen security efforts in affected communities.
