An Iranian parliament official has warned Persian Gulf countries to expel American military forces from their territories ahead of any possible escalation between Tehran and Washington.
Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesman for Iran’s Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said regional governments should act quickly or risk facing consequences if conflict breaks out.
“For as long as President Donald Trump has given time for another attack, regional countries have the same amount of time to permanently remove American troops,” Rezaei said.
The warning comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States following renewed threats of military action from Washington if ongoing indirect negotiations fail to produce an agreement.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also warned that any renewed war against Iran would bring “many more surprises” for the US.
According to the report, fighting between Iran, the US and Israel escalated earlier this year before a Pakistan-mediated ceasefire took effect on April 8. However, negotiations aimed at sustaining the truce have reportedly stalled over disagreements between the two sides.
Iranian officials continue to accuse the US and Israel of pursuing aggressive policies in the region, while Washington maintains pressure on Tehran over security and nuclear-related concerns.
