At least eight people have been killed in a new wave of Israeli air strikes targeting southern Lebanon, according to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency, amid continuing tensions despite an extended ceasefire agreement.
The deadliest attack struck the village of Doueir, where Israeli fighter jets reportedly killed five people and injured two others after several homes were destroyed.
Additional strikes killed two people near a hospital in Tibnin, while another person died in a drone strike in Burj Shemali in the Tyre district. The Lebanese Red Cross also recovered a body near the town of Shebaa.
The attacks came just one day after Israeli strikes reportedly killed at least 16 people across southern Lebanon, including women and children.
Hezbollah said its fighters clashed with Israeli forces in several southern Lebanese towns, including Haddatha, Biyyada and Rashaf.
Israeli military operations have also reportedly expanded into parts of eastern Lebanon, including areas in the western Bekaa Valley.
According to Lebanese authorities, more than 3,000 people have been killed and over 1.6 million displaced since renewed hostilities escalated earlier this year.
The latest violence comes despite a US-mediated ceasefire that was recently extended through early July.
