Ebola Outbreak Confirmed in Eastern DR Congo

Health authorities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have confirmed a deadly Ebola outbreak in the country’s eastern Ituri Province.

According to the Africa CDC, hundreds of suspected infections and dozens of deaths have already been reported, including confirmed fatalities linked to the virus.

Regional health agencies are now coordinating emergency meetings with neighboring countries including Uganda and South Sudan to strengthen border surveillance and response measures.

Ebola, first identified in 1976, spreads through direct contact with bodily fluids and can cause severe bleeding, organ failure, and death. The Democratic Republic of the Congo has experienced several outbreaks over the decades, including one of the world’s deadliest epidemics between 2018 and 2020.
