Deadly Escalation in Southern Lebanon Leaves Over 40 Dead in One Day

At least 40 people have been killed within 24 hours as Israeli airstrikes escalated across southern Lebanon, marking one of the deadliest periods since the fragile April ceasefire began.

According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, at least 41 people were killed and 89 others wounded in a single day, bringing the total number of casualties since the resumption of hostilities in March to more than 2,600 dead and over 8,000 injured.

Intensified Strikes in the South:

Heavy bombardments targeted multiple مناطق including Nabatieh, Bint Jbeil, and Sour districts. Airstrikes hit homes, vehicles, and civilian مناطق, with some attacks reportedly striking motorcycles and residential buildings.

In the village of Zebdine, two people were killed in a strike that hit a local shop, while drone attacks in Qana left others wounded. Additional strikes in Semmaaiyeh killed three more people.

Israeli forces also carried out large-scale demolitions in Bint Jbeil, a town that has already suffered widespread destruction in recent weeks.

Displacement and Evacuations:

The Israeli military renewed calls for evacuations in several villages, warning civilians to leave areas it claims are linked to Hezbollah operations. Civil defense teams have been evacuating residents amid continued air raids and low-flying drones, which have hindered rescue efforts.

Hezbollah Response:

Hezbollah said it launched a drone attack targeting Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon, claiming it struck a تجمع of troops inside a building. Meanwhile, Israel stated it intercepted rockets and drones fired toward its forces, reporting no casualties on its side.

Regional Tensions Rising:

The escalation comes amid broader regional instability. In Gaza Strip, at least four people were reported killed in the past 24 hours, adding to an already high death toll since the war began in October 2023.

At the same time, tensions involving Iran continue to grow. Iranian officials warned that renewed conflict with the United States and Israel is “likely,” while also adjusting oil production in response to a tightening U.S. naval blockade.

Despite a nominal ceasefire, fighting continues daily across southern Lebanon, raising fears of a broader regional war. Ongoing strikes, retaliatory attacks, and mass displacement suggest that the truce is increasingly fragile and may not hold.
