Meaning of “Wa Kullu Bid‘atin Ḍalālah” (وَكُلُّ بِدْعَةٍ ضَلَالَةٌ)

Literal Meaning:

> “And every innovation is misguidance.”

This phrase is part of a well-known hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), often recited in sermons (khutbah).

The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

> “The best speech is the Book of Allah, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. The worst of matters are newly invented matters, and every innovation is misguidance.” (Muslim).
