How to do Sujood as-Sahw after the salam

Sujood as-Sahw after salam is a way of correcting certain mistakes in Salah after you have already completed the prayer with tasleem (salutation). 

It involves performing two additional prostrations to compensate for an error such as adding something extra in the prayer or having uncertainty that was resolved in a specific way.

When Sujood as-Sahw is done after completing the prayer, it is performed like this:

1. Complete your prayer normally

Finish your tashahhud

Say the tasleem (salam) to end the prayer:

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa raḥmatullāh (right)

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa raḥmatullāh (left).

At this point, the prayer is considered finished.

2. Make Sujood as-Sahw.

Immediately after the salam:

Say Allāhu Akbar

Go down into sujood (prostration).

3. First prostration

In sujood, say:

Subḥāna Rabbiyal A‘lā (at least 3 times)

You may also make du‘ā (e.g., asking forgiveness).

4. Sit briefly.

Say Allāhu Akbar

Sit for a short moment (like between normal sujood).

5. Second prostration.

Go into sujood again

Say:

Subḥāna Rabbiyal A‘lā (at least 3 times).

6. Sit and finish

Sit up again

Then say the tasleem (salam) once more:

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa raḥmatullāh (right and left)

Now the Sujood as-Sahw is complete.

5. Sujood again
