Explosion at Iraqi Paramilitary Headquarters Kills One, Injures Four

An explosion at the headquarters of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in Baghdad has killed one member of the paramilitary group and injured four others, according to security and medical sources.

The explosion reportedly occurred when a stockpile of obsolete ammunition detonated, triggering a fire at the facility. The group confirmed that five people were injured in the incident, while the resulting fire has since been brought under control.

Following the incident, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi ordered an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the explosion, according to an official statement.

The Popular Mobilization Forces, also known as Hashd Al-Shaabi, is an umbrella organization comprising predominantly Shiite paramilitary factions. The group has been formally incorporated into Iraq’s state security structure and includes several factions aligned with Iran.

Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the explosion and establish whether any safety violations contributed to the incident.
