WASHINGTON, DC — September 2, 2026: US President Donald Trump has said he is pleased that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have left the United States and returned to Britain.
Speaking to reporters at the White House on Wednesday, Trump said he had never been a fan of the couple and criticised what he described as their treatment of the British royal family.
“I’m happy about it. I was not a fan,” Trump said, adding that he believed Harry and Meghan had shown “great disrespect” toward the royal family.
The president specifically criticised Meghan’s conduct toward the late Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III.
Harry and Meghan moved to the United States about six years ago after stepping back from royal duties and publicly criticising aspects of life within the royal family. They had been living in Montecito, California.
The couple has now returned to Britain, where Harry is believed to have improved his relationship with his father, King Charles III, who is undergoing cancer treatment.
However, reports indicate that Harry remains estranged from his elder brother, Prince William, and William’s wife, Catherine.
Trump also said that if he had been a member of the British royal family, he would not have welcomed Harry and Meghan back.
“Maybe I’m different. I wouldn’t have taken him back,” Trump said.
