Fire Destroys Shops in Yobe, Traders Lose Property Worth Millions

Several shops were destroyed by fire at the Pumpum Nuri Water Site in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State, leaving traders with losses estimated at millions of naira.

The incident occurred around 11pm on Monday while residents were indoors, according to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Yobe State Command.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the NSCDC Public Relations Officer, SC Bala Garba, said the fire destroyed several shops before it was eventually brought under control.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and was yet to be determined as of the time of filing the report.

The NSCDC said the affected traders and business owners suffered significant financial losses, with an assessment of the damage still ongoing.

However, no deaths or injuries were reported in the incident.

The corps said, “No casualties were reported at the time of this report.”
