Xiaomi has officially unveiled the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G in Japan, marking the first time the company has introduced a Redmi Note Pro Max model. It is also Xiaomi’s first smartphone to feature a huge 10,000mAh battery.
The battery uses silicon-carbon technology and is claimed to provide up to three days of normal use. It supports 100W wired charging, which Xiaomi says can provide enough power for a full day of use in just 20 minutes.
Xiaomi also says the battery can retain more than 80% of its capacity after 1,600 charging cycles, equivalent to around six years of use. The phone also supports 27W wired reverse charging, allowing users to charge other devices.
Durable Design and Display
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G features Xiaomi’s Redmi Titan Structure, along with IP66 and IP68 water and dust resistance. Xiaomi says the phone underwent a 72-hour underwater test at a depth of two metres.
The device has a 6.83-inch 1.5K display with a 120Hz refresh rate, up to 3,500 nits of peak brightness and a 3,200Hz touch sampling rate. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
Performance and Cameras
The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 chipset and offers up to 16GB of RAM through memory expansion. It runs HyperOS 3, with AI features including offline translation and real-time speech transcription.
For photography, the phone has a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilisation, an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 32MP front-facing camera.
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G is available in black, purple and Cloud Blush. The Cloud Blush model can change from white to a pinkish-orange colour when exposed to sunlight.
Price and Availability
In Japan, the 8GB/256GB model is priced at 79,980 yen, while the 8GB/512GB version costs 99,980 yen.
As an early-bird offer, Xiaomi is giving buyers a 10,000-yen discount on both models until October 14, bringing the prices down to approximately $439 and $565, respectively.
The Japanese launch also includes additional benefits such as selected free accessories, YouTube Premium, Spotify Premium, Google One storage and extended device and battery service.
