The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ordered a crackdown on unauthorised car dealerships operating within Abuja’s designated green areas.
Wike issued the directive on Saturday after inspecting ongoing projects in the nation’s capital, warning that vehicles found in the affected areas would be impounded and could be auctioned.
The minister expressed concern over the conversion of public parks and green belts into commercial vehicle markets, describing the development as a violation of Abuja’s master plan.
He alleged that some officials within the civil service had issued fraudulent allocation documents to unauthorised operators without the required approval from the FCT Administration.
“Parks have now turned to where they sell vehicles,” Wike said, adding that the administration had established a specialised task force to enforce the directive.
He warned car dealers operating in designated green areas to vacate immediately or risk having their vehicles seized and their businesses shut down.
According to the minister, the enforcement exercise is aimed at restoring Abuja’s master plan and preventing further illegal conversion of public green spaces.
