Washington Wildfires Burn Over 250,000 Acres, Trigger Mass Evacuations and Power Outages.

Massive wildfires have scorched more than 250,000 acres across Washington state, forcing widespread evacuations and leaving about 60,000 people without electricity, state officials said.

Around 4,000 firefighters are battling more than a dozen active wildfires across the state. Governor Bob Ferguson has declared a statewide emergency and imposed a burn ban as strong winds and high temperatures continue to fuel the blazes.

The Old Trails Fire near the city of Spokane has burned about 3,000 acres and is threatening nearly 4,000 buildings. Several major facilities, including a water treatment plant, a waste-to-energy facility, and a veterans' hospital, have been evacuated.

Officials said at least 200 homes had been evacuated by Saturday afternoon, with more evacuation orders expected as the fires continue to spread.

The largest wildfire, the Kaiser Canyon Fire in northeastern Washington, has grown to approximately 134,000 acres, making it one of the state's five major wildfire complexes.

So far this summer, about 450,000 acres have burned across Washington, a figure officials say is far above normal. Firefighters from more than a dozen U.S. states, along with the National Guard, have joined the emergency response.

Authorities have reported no injuries or fatalities linked to the fires so far, but warned that worsening weather conditions could make containment efforts more difficult in the coming days.
