Russian Missile Strike Kills 14, Injures 27 in Kyiv Region

At least 14 people were killed and 27 others injured after Russia launched a ballistic missile attack on the Kyiv region in the early hours of Wednesday, according to Ukrainian authorities.

Kyiv's military administration said the attack targeted at least seven locations around the capital, triggering air raid sirens that lasted for more than an hour. Emergency officials reported that several warehouses were damaged, while one warehouse near the city centre was completely destroyed.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said rescue teams pulled two people from the rubble and warned that more victims could still be trapped beneath the debris as search and rescue operations continue.

The latest strike comes just days after deadly attacks on both Russia and Ukraine claimed at least 27 lives, highlighting the continued escalation of the more than five-year conflict.

Ukraine has repeatedly appealed to its Western allies for additional US-made Patriot air defence systems to counter Russia's growing use of ballistic missiles. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently stressed that shortages of missile interceptors have left civilians increasingly vulnerable to such attacks.

The United Nations has also expressed concern over the rising number of civilian casualties, saying they have reached their highest levels since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
