The Kremlin said on Monday that Britain was undermining peace efforts in Ukraine by providing Kyiv with information needed to manufacture SCALP long-range missiles. Moscow also threatened to destroy facilities where the missiles are produced.
The warning came as British Prime Minister Andy Burnham visited Kyiv and pledged continued military support for Ukraine.
The British government has said it would authorise defence company MBDA to provide information about UK-made components used in the Franco-British SCALP missile, allowing Ukraine to manufacture the weapon domestically.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov accused Britain of repeatedly escalating the conflict and obstructing peace efforts. He said Russian forces were gathering intelligence to identify missile production sites and taking measures to destroy them.
The SCALP is a long-range cruise missile capable of striking targets about 250 kilometres (155 miles) away. Britain and France have supplied the weapon to Ukraine since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in 2022, although Ukraine has not yet manufactured it domestically.
During his visit to Kyiv for Ukraine’s Independence Day commemorations, Burnham reaffirmed Britain’s military backing for Ukraine, saying Russia’s threats would not stop his country from supporting Ukraine’s defence.
