Peter Obi Urges Nigerians to Prioritise Competence Ahead of 2027 Election

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has urged Nigerians to carefully examine the records, ideas and character of all presidential candidates ahead of the 2027 general election.

Obi, in a statement issued by his media office, said the 150-day campaign period should focus on serious discussions about leadership capacity rather than rallies, slogans and political propaganda.

He called on voters to assess candidates based on competence, accountability, character, capacity and measurable results, rather than ethnicity, religion or political connections.

According to the statement, Obi’s campaign will focus on reducing the cost of governance, strengthening education and healthcare, improving national security and creating greater economic opportunities for young Nigerians.

He also pledged to promote a shift from a consumption-driven economy to one focused on production, fiscal discipline and responsible management of public resources.

The former Anambra State governor urged Nigerians to use the campaign period to scrutinise candidates’ promises and determine who has the capacity to tackle economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment and institutional weaknesses.

Obi said his campaign would seek to rebuild trust between government and citizens through transparency, accountability and investment in productive sectors.
