Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has dismissed claims that northern voters are turning against President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during an interview with Channels Television, Sani predicted that Tinubu could receive between 70 and 80 percent of the votes in Kaduna State, compared with the 29 percent he secured in the state in the 2023 presidential election.
The governor said claims of growing opposition to Tinubu in the North were largely based on political narratives and social media discussions rather than the situation on the ground.
According to Sani, voters will ultimately judge the Tinubu administration based on its performance and the impact of its policies on their lives.
He also pointed to changes in Kaduna's political landscape, including the movement of opposition politicians into the All Progressives Congress (APC), particularly in Southern Kaduna.
Sani cited federal government projects in Kaduna, including the establishment of a Federal University of Science and Technology in Southern Kaduna and the development of a federal medical centre, as factors that could increase support for Tinubu.
Kaduna was one of the major northern states where former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar defeated Tinubu in 2023. Atiku received 554,360 votes, while Tinubu polled 399,293 votes.
Sani, however, said the political situation had changed significantly since 2023 and that the factors that influenced the previous election should not be assumed to remain the same in 2027.
The governor also dismissed the idea that elections could be won mainly through television appearances and social media campaigns. He stressed that politicians must engage directly with voters at the grassroots level.
Sani further urged Nigerians to question politicians about how they intend to fund their campaign promises rather than simply accepting them.
He maintained that there was no political backlash against Tinubu in the North, predicting that the President would perform strongly across the Northwest, Northeast and North-Central regions in 2027.
