Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has ordered the immediate dismissal and prosecution of staff members of Umaisha General Hospital in Toto Local Government Area over allegations that they sold medical equipment and other items donated to the facility.
The directive followed allegations that hospital workers disposed of items donated by Sa’ad Abdullahi, a member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly representing Umaisha/Ugya Constituency.
The allegations became public after a video circulated on social media showing the lawmaker at the hospital demanding an explanation from the management over the whereabouts of the donated materials.
Abdullahi said he had personally donated 50 fans, 50 orthopaedic mattresses and other items to improve conditions for patients and support healthcare delivery at the hospital.
Following the development, Governor Sule directed the Commissioner for Health to investigate the matter and ensure that anyone found responsible is dismissed and prosecuted.
The governor also instructed the Head of Service and Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission to take appropriate disciplinary and legal action against any officials found culpable.
Sule said dismissal alone would not be enough, stressing that those responsible must face prosecution for allegedly depriving patients of materials intended to improve their welfare.
He further emphasised that public servants, particularly those working in the health sector, must demonstrate honesty, integrity and patriotism in addition to professional competence.
