A popular comedian and media personality, Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as Aiza Nwosu, and another unidentified man have been shot dead by suspected gunmen in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
The incident occurred late on Sunday, August 30, 2026, with the two victims reportedly attacked at separate locations by the same assailants.
Nwosu was allegedly killed along S.M. Okeke Street in the Amaikwo area of Awka, while the second victim was shot along Capital City Road in Amaenyi.
The motive for the killings remains unclear, although eyewitnesses and residents suggested that the attacks could be linked to cult-related activities.
According to an eyewitness, about three men travelling in a tinted vehicle reportedly followed the comedian from his residence before blocking his vehicle and shooting him. The attackers allegedly left him inside his car before driving away and attacking another man nearby.
The gunmen reportedly fired shots into the air as they fled, causing panic among residents.
The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the killings and said it had launched an investigation and intensified efforts to apprehend the suspects.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said preliminary information indicated that three unidentified men travelling in a silver-coloured Toyota Corolla were responsible for the attacks.
Police operatives who responded to the distress call recovered the bodies of the victims and took them to a hospital, where they were confirmed dead.
The second victim has not yet been identified, while the other was identified as Isaac Nwosu, also known as Aiza.
Police also recovered ₦7,550, a Moniepoint ATM card and a pair of slippers from the scene.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Ama, condemned the killings, describing them as unacceptable and a threat to the peace and security of the state.
He ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for a thorough investigation.
The police have appealed to residents, community leaders, motorists and business owners who may have witnessed the attacks or have information about the suspects or the vehicle used in the operation to come forward.
The command assured members of the public that any information provided would be treated confidentially as efforts continue to arrest those responsible for the killings.
