Three members of a local vigilante group have been killed after gunmen attacked a civilian security post in Gwa Rim community, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack reportedly occurred around 2 a.m. on Wednesday when the gunmen opened fire on the vigilantes who were guarding the community.
A resident of Riyom, Damba Dang, confirmed the incident, saying the attackers struck while residents were asleep and killed three local security guards.
Dang expressed concern over the renewed attacks in the area, saying residents were increasingly worried about their safety.
He described the killing as particularly disturbing because the victims were helping to protect the community and its residents.
He called on security agencies to strengthen security around Gwa Rim and other vulnerable communities in Riyom. He also urged authorities to investigate the attack, identify the perpetrators and ensure they are brought to justice.
