GTBank Raises Quarterly International Spending Limit on Naira Cards to $40,000

GTBank Raises Quarterly International Spending Limit on Naira Cards to $40,000

Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has increased the quarterly international spending limit on its naira-denominated cards to $40,000, offering customers greater flexibility for overseas transactions.

The new limit represents a 566.7% increase from the $6,000 limit introduced in May and a 100% increase from the $20,000 limit that was in place as of August 10, 2026.

GTBank announced the latest adjustment in an email to customers on Tuesday, stating that the new limit can be used for payments such as flights, hotel bookings, school fees and other international expenses.

The bank also said the foreign exchange rate for international payments made with its naira cards on Tuesday was ₦1,367 per US dollar, noting that the rate is subject to changes based on prevailing market conditions.

The increase comes as Nigeria’s gross external reserves rose to $52.14 billion, the highest level recorded so far this year, according to data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Nigerian banks resumed international transactions on naira cards in 2025, following a suspension that lasted about three years.

When GTBank initially restored the service, it set the quarterly international spending limit at $1,000, with ATM withdrawals capped at $500 and online or POS transactions limited to $1,000 per quarter.

The latest adjustment significantly expands the amount GTBank customers can spend internationally using their naira cards.
