Four Dead in Helicopter Crash at Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro National Park.

At least four people have died after a helicopter crashed in a mountainous, forested area of Tijuca National Park in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The crash occurred on Saturday near Vista Chinesa, a popular tourist lookout in the city. The victims included the pilot and three Colombian women from the same family, according to Colombia’s consul general in Rio de Janeiro.

The three women were reportedly visiting Rio with relatives to celebrate a girl’s 15th birthday. The family had travelled as a group of six but split into two groups because the helicopter could carry only three passengers. The girl’s grandmother, aunt and cousin were among those killed.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the crash site, where firefighters recovered the victims.

Following the accident, Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere called for stricter supervision of tourist helicopter flights across the city. He said authorities should consider temporarily suspending such flights while additional safety measures are introduced.

Cavaliere said the city government had contacted Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) and requested immediate action to strengthen oversight and improve safety standards for helicopter operations.

Helicopter tours are a popular attraction in Rio de Janeiro, offering tourists aerial views of landmarks including Christ the Redeemer and the city’s coastline. However, concerns over flight safety have increased following a separate incident in June, when six people were killed after two helicopters collided in midair over the city.

Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of Saturday’s crash.
