Peter Ibrahim Gyendyeng, a Christian and former member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, has built a Juma’at Mosque for Muslims in Gana Ropp community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The project has brought happiness to Muslims in the community, who described the gesture as a demonstration of unity, tolerance and a sense of belonging.
Speaking during the commissioning of the mosque, Gyendyeng said he built the worship centre to promote peace and strengthen relationships between Christians and Muslims in Plateau State.
He explained that while financial assistance to members of the Muslim community could be quickly spent, a mosque would remain as a lasting place of worship where people could pray for peace and the development of the country.
The Chief Imam of the mosque, Sheikh Ladan Gana Ropp, expressed appreciation for the project, saying the community had never experienced such a gesture before.
He said the mosque had made Muslims in the area feel at home and that the community gathered during the commissioning to pray for Gyendyeng, the Plateau State Government and Nigeria.
The Chief Imam urged Christians and Muslims in Plateau State to embrace peace, unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
Pastors, Reverends and other members of the Christian community also attended the commissioning ceremony, highlighting the interfaith spirit behind the project.
