Five Nigerian Universities Ranked Among the Country’s Best in 2026

The University of Ibadan (UI) has emerged as the best-ranked university in Nigeria in the July 2026 Webometrics Ranking of World Universities.

The ranking assessed 32,148 universities and higher education institutions worldwide, focusing on factors such as digital visibility, openness, research performance and access to academic resources.

The five highest-ranked universities in Nigeria are:

1. University of Ibadan (UI) — ranked 1,291st globally.

2. University of Lagos (UNILAG) — ranked 1,355th globally.

3. University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) — ranked 1,397th globally.

4. Covenant University, Ota — ranked 1,522nd globally.

5. Landmark University — ranked 1,659th globally.

The University of Ibadan maintained its position as Nigeria’s leading university in the latest assessment.

Covenant University was the highest-ranked private university among the five, while Landmark University also secured a place in the top five.

The Webometrics ranking is published twice a year and measures universities largely by their online presence, research visibility, openness and accessibility of scholarly resources, rather than relying solely on traditional academic reputation.
